Site Assessment Process

As part of our service to you, we include a Site Assessment with every Installation

This is undertaken by a qualified Solar and/or Battery Installer, giving you far more peace of mind.

The assessment information is reviewed by our In-House Engineering team and at this point we will issue our Final quotation.

We also provide all of our customers a “No surprises" promise. If errors are made by SkyGreen before this point, we will own that responsibility and not pass on the charge.

There are several items covered during the On-Site Inspection that cannot be covered by an Un-Qualified Quoter or over the phone.

  • Roof measurements, down to the centimeter, and corresponding panel plan. (Roof access required)
  • Inspection of roof screw lines (Important for tin roofs, which govern the load bearing areas of the roof)
  • Ideal cable runs, including behind wall cavities and within roof space.
  • Conduit opportunities, in conjunction with customer requirements
  • OH&S check, inc. fall protection, power lines, attachment points
  • Electrical switchboard check (there can often be unexpected issues here, including the fitting of monitoring equipment. Only a qualified electrician may remove the switchboard cover for proper inspection.)
  • Measurement of power cable to grid connection point.
  • Inverter and Battery Location, Spacing, Fire Safety, Shade protection and Wiring suitability to Australian Standards.
  • Assessment of Existing equipment
  • Voltage Rise calculations and grid compliance of home wiring and main fuses (these are the ones connecting to the street).
  • Dilapidation report. (Occasionally we discover unknown issues with the home, for example fully rusted roofs, not detectable without site visit).

The Site Assessment is then then forwarded to our In-House Technical team for review using our 3-point Engineering check. This covers more technical detail including the Australian Standards and compliance to CEC regulations.

  • Suitability of proposed system.
  • Creation of site specific scope of works.
  • Review of:
    • Panel layout
    • System size
    • System technology
  • Panel layout changes if required.
  • Cable selection for AC and DC side of the system.
  • Creation of Single Line Diagram. (Electrical design of proposed connection of the system, often called an SLD)
  • Selection of system protection.
  • Site specific string configuration.
  • Analysis of site-specific obstructions, shading, difficult roofs, multiple split arrays, long and difficult cable runs, etc.
  • Approval of job variations.
  • Check Voltage Rise calculations.
  • Finalisation of Job Pack, ensuring design complies with Australian Standards AS3000, AS 4777.1, AS4777.2, AS5033, AS5139. Also, as per CEC design criteria.
  • Ensure installation was completed as per the scope.
  • Installation has been completed as per standards. (wiring, connection at switchboard, roof penetrations)
  • Monitoring Set Up.

Site Assessment FAQs

How long does the Site Assessment take and do I need to be at the property?

You do not need to be at the property as a report will be completed by the Installer and we can make this available to you. Many do like to be in attendance for the Site Assessment so they are on hand to ask Installers any questions they may have and the inspection may require access to difficult to reach areas of the property.

What are you looking at when you do the Site Assessment? What parts of the property do you need to access?

We will require access to the electrical switchboard, intended location of the inverter, and the roof.

Why do you need to do a Site Assessment?

As part of SkyGreen’s offering, we include a comprehensive site visit for all Installations, prior to Installation day, carried out by a qualified Installer. This assures that you obtain an accurate and customised system design, with accurate pricing that we will commit to. This is our “No surprises” promise.

Is there any interruption of power during my Solar Installation?

Yes, but only for a short time. We will always need safe access to the home switchboard, therefore mains power needs to be turned off. This time period can be as short as 30 mins for a straight-forward job and up to several hours for a large job including Batteries. The Installer will talk you through this on the day.

How long will it take to be connected to the grid from day of Installation? Do I need to do anything?

The grid connection process varies from state to state, as does the Inspection process. Speak to our friendly staff and they can give you more specific information about your location.
